  Lightning Arrester

Most commonly recommended site test method for inspecting lightning arresters in Dubai is used by OILMARK. We conduct the sparkover and frequency leakage test in the site using our HIOKI portable test equipment. Lightning arresters are always fixed at a height near critical equipment’s or electrical entry spots eg: electrical panel, generator. When lightning strikes the building, OILMARK lightning arrester automatically starts operating actively and diverts the critical lightning to ground. This lightning will get harmlessly dispersed to ground.

In line-type and stationary model lightning arresters with unit ratings up to 38 kV are supplied and serviced by OILMARK in Dubai. Lightning protection earths can be tested by Oilmark in 2 methods which is commonly used worldwide:

  •    Fall of Potential (FOP)
  •    Dead Earth method
  •    The 61.8% method

Fall of Potential is our most commonly used method. In this process we use the Lightning electrode which is to be tested, 2 reference electrodes & test leads. The most important device used for Lightning arrester testing in Dubai is four-pole test meter.

Procedure for Testing of the Lightning Protection System.

OILMARK used Earth resistance meter to calculate the resistance of earth in each lightning electrode. We also inspect the resistance of earth in the entire termination system. Inspection of lightning arrester also includes visual examination of lightning conductors, their bonding and joints. The electrical continuity is to be measured for accurate values.
